I am a Landscape Architect, Artist and Placemaker based in Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmö, Sweden.
I explore the link between site, material and person, believing that it is through the participation with our environments that we truly inhabit them. This habitation turns a space into a place - making it more than a physical configuration but also a mental construction for the inhabitant.
My work typically takes the form of built elements and small works of landscape architecture, most often accompanied by an event. I believe that the esthetic dimension of my work is important because it, when successful, heightens what is already there and reveals something new about the place. One could argue that this “unveiling of reality” really is the purpose of art but for me it has a more practical dimension as well. I often find myself fascinated by forgotten or mundane spaces/places and by presenting them through my actions I hope to share this feeling with others.
This effect is strengthened through participation which I typically bring in as co-construction - that is, letting the audience take part in the creation of the piece. In architectural terms this would typically be referred to as participatory methods which I believe in strongly. Community creation is sometimes a component of my projects, most typically when they are long term, because that type of trust is built over time.
I am a co-founder of BY RUM SKOLE, a studio specializing in the participation of children and young people in the making of their surroundings. Although I don’t see this demographic as my sole focus, it is presently my main activity. I am also a part of running Byhumle - an urban hop farm in Copenhagen that works as a not for profit organisation.
